Best Sunset Spots in the Outer Banks

If y’all know me, you know that I like to describe myself as a sunset enthusiast and I take my title very seriously. The Outer Banks has been our go to place for beach vacation for years. It has become a second home to me and is truly one of my favorite places to catch a beautiful sunset. The colors are unlike you have ever seen with lots of gold, yellow, pink, and orange. It looks like something out of a painting! If you find yourself visiting and are in need of a scenic evening, I highly recommend making your way to one of the Outer Banks many beaches for the sunset. There are a plethora of beautiful sunset spots in the Outer Banks, but here are several I’ve experienced firsthand and thoroughly enjoyed!

Currituck Heritage Park

Located in Currituck is the Historic Whalehead Club, where a beautiful bridge is spanning where the Currituck Sound meets the canal. Here you and your family will be able to take a photo or two of the sunsets while enjoy the bridge in the park. This location is famous to locals who love to take advantage of the sunsets while taking photos of not only the sunset but of other elements such as the Whalehead Club, Currituck Lighthouse and the old live oak trees. This is a place that makes you wonder if you are still on the East Coast.

Jockey’s Ridge

If you are looking for an iconic Outer Banks sunset picture, then you need to head over to Jockey’s Ridge State Park located in Nags Head. This is one of my absolute favorite spots to see a sunset because there is no bad place to see a sunset. Did you know that if you climb to the top of Jockey’s Ridge, then you will have a full 360-degree view of the Outer Banks? To the west you will be able to see the Roanoke Sound and the sunsets from this hill are absolutely gorgeous. During the day of course, there are plenty of things for you and your family to do and enjoy, but I promise you that the sunsets will not disappoint! It looks fake but I promise you it is not.

Boardwalk in Duck

If you are staying in Duck or close to Duck at all, then you have to head over to the boardwalk. Here you will be able to see a breathtaking view of the Outer Banks sunset. The boardwalk does stretch nearly the entire length of the village and here you can find cute shops and restaurants along the way. If you have ever been to Charleston or Hilton Head before, Duck is a mix of the two of them and is such a fun and cute town to see an awesome sunset from!

Other notable sunset spots in the Outer Banks:

  • Nags Head
  • Manteo
  • Colington Harbour in Kill Devil Hills
  • Bay Drive in Kill Devil Hills
  • Rodanthe
  • Kitty Hawk
  • Outer Banks Fishing Pier

Are you a sunset enthusiast like me? Where is your favorite place to see a sunset? As always, thank y’all for stopping by and reading. I will see y’all back here next time!

Love, Dani
